Podcasts are useful tools for presentations. They are better than Powerpoints because you actually have to listen to yourself and others can listen to it when it is convient for them.

We are set up to use gcast pod maker, http://www.gcast.com/

You can record your podcast on your computer as am mp3 file and upload it or you can "call it in" on your phone.

You will notice that there are 2 podcast items on the home page: one is for me to record lectures, instructions etc. The other one is for your recording.

Basic steps to recording your podcast:

Write your script. Practice it. Pronounciation counts!

Add Audio to Your Podcast

  • By Phone: Call 1-888-65-GCAST (888-654-2278)
  •  Use this number to verify ccount: 860 673-2415 (it's the high school main number)
  • The 4 digit pin# is: 1234
  • Follow the prompts on the phone.

  • From your computer:   (preferred method)

If you are using your computer you will need a program that can record and save as an mp3. If you do not have one, Audacity, www.audacity.com,  has a free one.  You will need to download it and the LAME mp3 dll to save the recordings as mp3's.

Upload new audio  Go to www.gcast.com

Login name (screen name/email): fhs_student

Password: hbio

Upload new audio button  brings you to the following screen:

Important!!  title is Period#_LastName  i.e.  P1_Smith

Note:

Please be patient! Sometimes it can take multiple attempts to funnel large files like this through the Internet. If at first you don't succeed, please try again. As a last resort, you can email your file to us.

Title
Click browse to locate an MP3 audio file on your hard drive.

(no WAV, AIFF, RA, WMV, OGG, or cassette tapes - MP3 ONLY, please)

IMPORTANT: do NOT upload any material that might infringe on somebody else's copyright! That includes cover songs. You will be solely liable if your use of our service violates U.S. or international copyright law.

Also: This must be a 44.1kHz MP3 file, or it will play at wrong speed!

Description (optional)
After uploading audio: Automatically publish to FHS_Student's podcast  (recommended)
Save audio file to Master Playlist, I'll publish it to my podcast later
Depending on the speed of your internet connection and the size of your file, the file transfer could take anything from seconds to over an hour.

As soon as we receive your file, we'll encode a lower-bitrate version of it for streaming, which means it may take a little while before your file is ready for podcasting. If there are any problems, we'll send you an email.

By uploading a file, you agree to our user agreement

 Be hearing from you soon.
